How to Perform on Stage

Your performance on stage will either be improved or hindered by the foods you eat beforehand. They can affect your diaphragm and throat. Healthy choices will enhance your vocal chords and help you deliver an award-winning performance.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Step 1
Eat two to three hours before your performance. Eating too close to performance time can affect your vocal chords. Eggs are great because they're high in protein and light.

Step 2
Choose foods that will satisfy your hunger and keep you satisfied through your performance. Stay away from foods that are too heavy. If your stomach is too full, it will affect diaphragm making it hard to take a full breath.

Step 3
Stay away from foods that cause phlegm in your throat because your voice may break. This includes chocolate, milk, citrus products, nuts and carbonated beverages. Coffee and spicy foods will irritate your throat.

Step 4
Avoid skipping meals. This can make you feel light-headed or nauseous which will hamper your ability to perform. Your stomach may also growl while you're on stage.

Step 5
Consume different foods and drinks while you practice. Go through a list of so-called forbidden foods to see which adversely affect your performance.

Step 6
Discover your own body chemistry. Each person has a different reaction with certain foods.

Step 7
Drink lukewarm water and herbal tea to soothe your throat if it feels raspy or weak. Hard candy, lozenges and gargling with salt water can also soothe your throat.
